Blumenauer: Important Votes on Failing Policies
May 18, 2008
U.S. Congressman Earl Blumenauer
Oregon 3rd District
PRESS RELEASE: May 19, 2008
Important Votes on Failing Policies
Last week I voted on two important bills. I voted against the $280 billion farm bill, which does little for small farm communities in Oregon and across the country, while it lavishes subsidies on the richest 10% of farmers and shortchanges vital environmental programs.
I also took a stand on the Iraq war by voting in favor of withdrawing US troops from Iraq in 30 days and against further funding for the war. I also voted to expand funding for veterans’ education benefits. I have opposed this war from the beginning and have held firm to my pledge not to fund the war. I will continue doing all I can to bring our men and women home.
