House Democratic Caucus Welcomes Chris Harker as New State Representative
Swearing In Set for June 18 at 4 p.m. in House Chambers

SALEM -- Oregon House Democrats today welcomed Chris Harker as the newest member of the Oregon House of Representatives and announced the swearing-in ceremony for the new State Representative will be held on Wednesday, June 18 at 4 p.m. in the House Chambers.

Harker was selected by Washington County commissioners last week to fill the HD-34 seat, left vacant by now-Sen. Suzanne Bonamici (D-Beaverton).

“Chris will be a valuable addition to the House,” said House Majority Leader Dave Hunt. “Two of the most important things we’re fighting for are good, stable jobs and affordable, accessible health care. Chris’s experience as a small business owner and medical researcher will not only benefit his constituents in Washington County, but Oregonians across the state.”

Harker is President and Founder of Cayuse, Inc., a top provider of software for obtaining federal grants. Cayuse now employs fourteen people at its Beaverton headquarters, and one in Boston, Mass. Cayuse was one of three finalists in the 2007 Awards for Entrepreneurship competition held by the Oregon Entrepreneurs Network.

A former medical researcher at OHSU, Harker was also the Director of the Core Laboratory for the OHSU General Clinical Research Center. He holds a Ph.D. in Human Physiology from the University of Michigan and served as a post-doctoral fellow at the Mayo Clinic.

Chris Harker and his wife, Georgia, have been married for 28 years. They have two children, both of whom attended Beaverton Public Schools.

Governor Ted Kulongoski will deliver the oath of office. Also expected to attend are Speaker Pro-Tem Diane Rosenbaum and House Majority Leader Dave Hunt.
