MARKET-BASED REFORMS THE BEST PRESCRIPTION FOR IMPROVING OREGON’S HEALTH CARE SYSTEM
Raising Taxes, Increasing Bureaucracy the Wrong Solution
SALEM—House Republicans today said they’re working to develop market-based solutions to reform Oregon’s health care system. An insurer’s decision to increase rates by 26 percent demonstrates the need to reduce health care costs in the state.
“Oregon’s health care bureaucracy and its regulations are preventing many Oregonians from receiving the care they need,” said Rep. Ron Maurer (R-Grants Pass), a House Health Care Committee member. “That’s why House Republicans will focus on reforms that give more Oregonians the opportunity to obtain health insurance that’s not provided by the government.”
Rep. Maurer said raising taxes and creating more bureaucracy is the wrong solution for improving Oregon’s health care system.
“State government can’t reduce costs by raising taxes and increasing bureaucracy,” Rep. Maurer said. “There’s fundamental agreement that the Legislature must take action, though House Republicans will oppose efforts to socialize health care and drive private insurers out of our state.”
