PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Oregon taxpayers are receiving the largest kicker in state history this tax season. But roughly half of all Oregon taxpayers are still waiting to file their returns ahead of the April 15 deadline.

Oregonians are receiving a 44.28% return on the state taxes they paid in 2022 this year, thanks to $5.61 billion in surplus revenue from the 2021-23 biennium. Taxpayers who have submitted their returns can track the progress of their refund through the Oregon Department of Revenue’s Where’s My Refund?” tool.

“The kicker can reduce how much taxpayers owe the state or increase how much they get back — a fact that has heightened refund anticipation,” the Department of Revenue stated.

As of March 19, the Oregon Department of Revenue has received nearly 1.1 million tax returns and issued more than 916,000 refunds. With 25 days left before the deadline, Oregon Department of Revenue administrator Megan Denison is encouraging citizens to file their taxes now.

“It looks like typical Oregon rainy spring break weather this weekend,” Denison said. “If you haven’t filed your taxes yet, take care of them this weekend and beat the April rush.”
