PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Republican James Hieb of Canby is running to keep his seat in the Oregon legislature. Hieb was appointed to replace then House Minority leader Christine Drazan in District 39 when she left the legislature to run for governor in 2022.

Since the legislative districts were redrawn after the 2020 census, Hieb is now running in House District 51, which is all in Clackamas County, including Estacada, Eagle Creek, Beavercreek, Sandy and Canby, where he lives.

Rep. Hieb is a former Marine who’s currently vice-chair of the Canby Planning Commission, director of the Building Blocks Early Learning Center in Wilsonville, as well as a state legislator.

On this week’s Eye on Northwest Politics, Hieb voices his thoughts on Christine Drazan running against him in the Republican primary for House District 51, whether the repealing of Measure 110 went far enough, his priorities should he be elected, and even the potential for tolling on I-205.

Additionally, he discusses an incident occurring in August 2022 at the Clackamas County Fair in which he was arrested for disorderly conduct and how this has affected his campaign moving forward.
