PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - Portland police said on Friday and Saturday nights, they made six total arrests and towed 14 cars - including two as civil forfeitures - after a series of weekend street takeovers.

One of those events was at the intersection of Northeast Glisan and Northeast 102nd, where dark skid marks could be seen Sunday morning.

Neighbors said they woke in the middle of the night to revving engines and shouting.

“I could hear it over a TV program that I was watching, and I was going, ‘What’s that noise?’” said one neighbor. “I’m going, ‘Not again! Oh boy.’”

She said it’s the fourth time within a year that this has happened at that intersection.

“It’s got to be put to a stop,” she said. “This is a nice neighborhood, or used to be, and we don’t need that kind of stuff.”

Another street takeover on Friday night was at Swan Island.

Portland police say just before 8 p.m. Friday, officers responded to an organized street takeover on Swan Island.

Police said hundreds of people participated in these events over the weekend.

Employees at a convenience store on Northeast Glisan and 102nd said this time they closed early, because last time, multiple people from the event came in and stole merchandise.

The neighbor said she hopes these activities will wind down for the safety of the entire community.

“It’s very dangerous because it’s a small area,” she said. “They could easily get hit, and it’s dangerous for the people who are doing the deed, because it’s not a big area.”

This comes just a few months after Portland Police received a $100,000 grant from the state to help them crack down on street racing incidents.
