PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Interstate 5 southbound in Eugene was blocked by protesters Monday morning, officials said.

According to the Oregon Department of Transportation, law enforcement responded to the scene near milepost 194, and the southbound lanes were completely closed.

Oregon State Police said that they ordered the protesters to disperse and eventually 52 people were arrested for disorderly conduct. Two people were also charged with conspiracy and second-degree theft.

Authorities said the road was blocked for 45 minutes before being opened again. At least six cars were towed from the scene.
