Last week's filing deadline to run for the Hillsboro School Board has come and gone, and the final number of candidates competing for three positions stands at eight.

Two incumbents -- board Chair Kim Strelchun and Vice Chair Wayne Clift -- are seeking re-election, and another position was left wide open after current board member Adriana Canas announced that she would not run in the May 19 contest.

Here is a list of the candidates for each of the three open positions on the seven-member board. Stay with The Oregonian/OregonLive and the Hillsboro Argus over the coming months for ongoing coverage of the election.

Race for Position 4

Incumbent: Kim Strelchun, board chair. Strelchun has served on the board since 2011 and as chair since 2013. Before that, she spent four years on the Hillsboro School District's Citizens Curriculum Advisory Committee. She listed her occupation as an arts integration coach and volunteer, with previous jobs as an executive business assistant and accounting assistant. Strelchun obtained a bachelor's degree in social science from Portland State University and graduated from Beaverton High School. She sits on the district's committees for college and career pathways, equity and teacher evaluation. Strelchun has the support of the Hillsboro teacher's union.

Challenger: Christian Honl, an Intel engineer. Honl has worked at Intel for 18 years, election documents show. He graduated from the University of Washington with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and attended Astoria High School. Honl also listed experience as a Washington County precinct committeeperson and as a state central committee alternate delegate for the Washington County Republicans.

Challenger: Tim Reeves, a Hillsboro School District parent. The youngest of Reeves' three kids is a sophomore at Liberty High School, he said in filing documents. His listed email address is hosted at the Tenth Amendment Center. Reeves completed an 11-year career in the Navy and now works as a field service engineer at Applied Materials, he said in a brief phone interview. He graduated from Kimball High School in Royal Oak, Michigan.

Race for Position 5

Challenger: Lisa Allen, current chair of the district's Citizens Curriculum Advisory Committee. Allen spent two years as a member of the 2006 Teach For America corps in St. Louis, Missouri. She studied social science at Portland State and obtained a master's degree in teaching at Webster University in Missouri. Allen is a state delegate for the Washington County Democrats and has earned support from the Hillsboro teachers' union, Canas, Mayor Jerry Willey and numerous other Hillsboro and Portland-area leaders. Her husband, Kyle Allen, was recently elected to the Hillsboro City Council. In election filings, Allen listed her occupation as a freelance writer and full-time mom.

Challenger: Bart Rask, an orthopedic surgeon. The Hillsboro Orthopedic Group lists Rask, a native Oregonian, as specializing in sports-related injuries and says he has experience working with team physicians for the Indianapolis Colts and Boston Celtics. Rask has served on the district's Citizens Curriculum Advisory Committee and on the Oregon Board of Athletic Trainers, according to election filings. He obtained a bachelor's degree in microbiology from Oregon State University and completed medical school at Oregon Health Sciences University. Rask completed a residency at Boston University and fellowships at Harvard and Indiana universities.

Challenger: Christopher A. Barry, a mortgage banker. Barry's LinkedIn page indicates he works for American Pacific Mortgage in Hillsboro. He has served on the district's budget committee, as president of the Oregon Association of Mortgage Professionals, as president of the Washington County Sheriff's Office Foundation and as a leader in the Boy Scouts of America. He studied political science at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo.

Race for Position 7

Incumbent: Wayne Clift, board vice chair. Clift, an engineer at Intel, was first elected in 2011 and has served on district committees for graduation requirements, superintendent evaluation and charter school evaluation. Before winning his board position, Clift sat on the district's budget committee. He has been a STEM robotics coach and a booster for Liberty High School's band, and he's also involved with the Boy Scouts of America. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in computer engineering from Brigham Young University.

Challenger: Jaime Rodriguez, a career specialist at Portland Community College. Rodriguez lost a previous bid for the board to Glenn Miller in 2013. He has the support of the Hillsboro teacher's union. In election filings, Rodriguez listed service with the United States Army and California National Guard and on numerous school district committees, including the Citizens Curriculum Advisory Committee and the budget committee. He graduated from Fresno State University with a degree in public administration. Rodriguez is an alternate congressional delegate for the Washington County Democrats.
