Gov. Kate Brown's statewide mask mandate went into effect Wednesday and officials say the Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will enforce it.
OSHA created a list of rules for stores and businesses to follow. They include having a greeter at the door to confront anyone who's entering without a mask and to provide them with one if necessary.
Anyone who sees customers flouting the rules should complain to OSHA so they can perform an inspection.
"Our advice to employers is to respond thoughtfully and respond honestly because, again, the failure to do that is what is going to trigger the likelihood of an infection," said Aaron Corvin, the spokesperson for OSHA.
OSHA has a staff of 75 field inspectors.
Any business found to be in non-compliance with the mask mandate could be subject to a fine.
