Oregon House Rules Committee will be voting on SB493A this Friday.: SB 493 is a prevailing wage bill where government will pay the highest price for public projects. Defines prevailing wage as the highest contracted trade or occupation wage.

Recent money scandals surrounding both roads and affordable housing projects reveal that Oregon is already over-spending and wasting tens of millions of dollars.  Now they want to write over-payments into state law by mandating higher costs for government projects — even if a more affordable solution could be found.

The Mackinac Center found that such prevailing wage laws caused them to overspend on school by nearly a quarter billion dollars.  The Beacon Hill Institute found that prevailing wage laws cost states billions in compliance.
