FILE - In this March 3, 2020, file photo, the Klamath River is seen flowing across northern California from atop Cade Mountain in the Klamath National Forest. Federal regulators on Thursday, July 16, 2020, threw a significant curveball at a coalition that has been planning for years to demolish four massive hydroelectric dams on a river along the Oregon-California border to save salmon.

The Oregon Department of Forestry opened public comment on planned projects, timber sales and other management activities in state-owned forests for fiscal year 2022.

The plans lay out activities expected to take place in the coming year, such as timber harvests, reforestation and trail improvements. The public comment closes June 21.

Oregonians can weigh in on the draft annual operations plans for state forests in Astoria, Forest Grove, Klamath-Lake, Tillamook, West Oregon and Western Lane Districts, which includes the Tillamook, Clatsop, Sun Pass and Gilchrist state forests. Draft plans can be found at: oregon.gov/ODF/Working/Pages/StateForests.aspx

Those who want to offer input on the plans can:

The most useful input relates to common activities found in the operating plan, including timber harvest operations, habitat improvement for native species, forest road construction and invasive species management, ODF said in a news release.

ODF is asking for solution-oriented input that offers information, corrects errors and improves efficiency.

A public comment process on planned projects, timber sales, and other management activities on the North Cascades District for fiscal year 2022, including extensive restoration efforts on the Santiam State Forest, will be conducted separately.
