The ACLU is taking on the topic of police accountability and protests in Portland.

It held a panel discussion Monday online with community leaders and legal professionals weighing in on the past year of demonstrations in the city.

They discussed the resignation of the Rapid Response Team, nightly demonstrations, and what changes they want to see in the way Portland police respond.

"It's recommendations we have said before. Don't discriminately tear gas, don't bull rush, don't kettle. We have had this conversation over and over, and it doesn't go anywhere. So it's hard to feel like there is progress," said Candace Avalos, one of the panelists.

All of the panelists had strong opinions against the way demonstrations have been handled in the city.

No one from the city or the Portland Police Bureau was on the panel Monday.
