Portland Public schools are buying large orders of tents to keep elementary and middle school students socially distanced.   They are set to be used to at lunchtime so students will be able to eat outside.  Also some class instructions and lectures will happen under the tents as well.

Portland Tribune notes, “Despite the school district having ‘state of the art’ ventilation systems in buildings, the need for outdoor spaces stems from a recommendation by the Oregon Department of Education and the Oregon Health Authority. There have also been numerous requests from within the community asking for students to have the choice to eat outdoors if they wish, according to board members.”

The cost of the tents will be $300,000.
